Take control of your health I: Detoxing your body

Maybe today is the day when you should try something different? I have learned that in order to start loosing weight, to feel more healthy and fresh - and to have more energy and clarity of mind- there is a need to regularly detox your body. It may sound like a ”big project” – to complicated or hard, but REALLY, it is not! As soon as you start to realizing all the benefits – you will notice that you develop your own natural cravings to do it regularly, over and over again. Just by the pleasure of treating yourself right. It does not have o be that often. The most important thing is that you do it regularly. If you do it once a month, or even every third or six month, it will be enough. It is like giving yourself a really good shower on the inside, a total cleanse, kickstarting all the natural processes that you want to occur in your body. The results are usually AMAZING, and you will not only see it yourself when you look in the mirror– but people will start noticing it, and comment on how GREAT and radient you look.

My favorite dexox regimen (developed through many years of trial and error), is as follows:


The Master Cleanse or Lemonade diet

The Master Cleanse, or Lemonade diet is such a simple program, and it is by far my favorite of the Detox Diet Recipes.

First, squeeze Fresh Lemon Juice, then add a couple of tablespoons Rich Maple Syrup, and Cayenne Pepper into Pure Water (2-4 lemons/litre). If you would like an ever stronger effect – you can add some fresh ginger to the mixture.

Second, take a mild laxative, and/or fiber (e.g. psyllum) morning and evening; or instead of the morning laxative, you can do the Seasalt Water Flush.

Drink a minimum of six to twelve glasses of the lemonade throughout the day. Make one of these glasses the first you drink in the morning. Do this for 7-10 days. If you add the maple syrup, you should not eat any food during this period. But if you feel you need to eat, you can also do it as part of a lighter diet. Personally I drink a glass of this mix every morning. Sometimes I also add Aloe Vera juice, which together with the lemon, has an amazing effect on my skin. It also helps your digestion.

This detox is very beneficial to your whole system, down to the cellular level. The mixture is high in minerals such as e.g. zinc, magnesium, iron and calcium. It is low in calories and does not spike blood sugar levels - and it is sufficient in nutrients and minerals to sustain the body for a long period of time. The best is that it is both easy and cheap - and thus, there are no excuses. You can buy your lemons and syrup at the nearest store. It is just so simple to get started!

In order to do the Master Cleanse, you need to have some MOTIVATION. Whether you are motivated to lose weight, or get control of you eating habits, to detox, simply feel better or to get through the first day of the cleansing diet - motivation is a key component to success. Here are some tips that might help you:

1. Be willing to leave your comfort zone.
2. Don't be afraid to make mistakes.
3. Don't indulge in self-limiting thinking.
4. Choose to be happy every day.
5. Spend at least one hour a day on self-development (reading, meditation, yoga etc.).
6. Train yourself to set goals and to finish what you start.
7. Train mindfulness and to live fully at the moment.
8. Commit yourself to appreciation and joy in all the things that you are doing.
9. Never quit when you experience a setback or frustration.
10. Dare to dream big dreams - they will eventually materialize if you decide to believe them!
11. Dare to talk to people about your hopes and fears, dreams and plans etc. Supporting relationships empower you and help the process!

What this really means is  
not only the detoxification of the body, but also of the mind.


What to consider before you start:

If you have never done a detox or cleanse before, always check with your doctor, or health care professional first.

Start slowly and work up to doing 7 - 10 days or longer. You can try it for just one day and see how you feel. Then do three or five days before the 7 - 10 days. If you stop, and start eating, be careful with what you eat. Choose foods that are easy to digest - e.g. soups, fruits, and juices etc. Be patient and give your body a chance to adjust to the detoxification process.
